South
Park Road
In
little more than one hour on a chilly Monday afternoon a group
of ten students managed to fill a skip with rusty shopping
trolleys, bikes, motorbike parts and sacks full of litter that
had been spoiling the natural area at South Park Road for
residents and dog walkers.
Rev.
Tim Gomm, Rossmore's Community Chaplain, joined forces with the
school's Social Care Worker George Sanger to recruit the
students and bring them to South Park Road for their first task
with us.
Bourne
Valley Ranger Kate Mitchell helped us arrange the day and joined
in the hard work, and the skip and other equipment was supplied
by the council, so it was a real team effort. We were all
impressed at the enthusiasm that the young people showed and before
long there was hardly room for a crisp packet amongst the
rubbish that we pulled from the pond edges, the stream and
woodland.
There's
plenty more to be done though, so we'll probably be back for
another go at it in the next few weeks.
Meantime,
the group's next task with us is to help Kate with scrub
clearance on local heathland. |
