Urban Flow Art Project 2006

'Infiltrate' starts hereLocal artists Diane Roberts & Miriam Troth have been awarded a Bournemouth Arts Grant for a project they call Urban Flow - a free community arts project for adults taking place this summer.

Urban Flow is based around the Bourne Stream.  The first phase of a 3-part project is called Infiltrate; the second is Source and the third (as yet unnamed) will be at Bournemouth Pier.

Miriam explains:

"Do you know what you are walking over?".

This is the first question we will ask as we meet in the Square.  Bournemouth Square is really a bridge and beneath it runs the Bourne Stream.

We propose to make people aware of the existence of the Bourne Stream and its local historical significance in the naming of Bournemouth.

This section of the Urban Flow project is called Infiltrate and involves exploring the Bourne Stream from the Water Tower in Upper Gardens to Bournemouth Square; promoting its potential as a basis for creativity.  Infiltrate refers to the stream flowing through the centre of the town.

Our intention is to plot the route by various creative means; drawing, watercolour painting, printmaking, photographing, collaging, rubbings, documenting, collecting, etc.

We see the experience of the process being the essential outcome but in addition we would be interested in displaying the documentation.

This project will provide an opportunity for the artists to develop a high quality event which interacts with the local community.  They expect it to capture the publics imagination and the attention of the local press and environmental organisations.  They aim to involve carers and others who have limited access to contemporary expression as well as the general community.

Project websiteDiane Roberts has a BA Hons in Humanities with Art History and a PGCE.  She teaches part time both adults and children.  She will be participating in Dorset Art Week 2006.

Miriam Troth has a BA Hons in Fine Art.  She recently completed an artist’s residency in Sweden and is currently a mentor in the Artsmatrix mentoring scheme.

Both are experienced in working with various community groups and have contact with the Participatory Arts Network.  More information about the artists and their work is available from:
